POSTAL HISTORY 1900 (24th August), Anglo-Boer War period. Registered cover addressed to Cape Town bearing a single 5/- green surcharged ‘V.R.I. / 5s’ (subsequent printing with raised stops, SG 132) tied by Bloemfontein (24 Aug) single circle datestamps with ‘19’ for year and ‘O.V.S.’ excised. Cape Town (27 Aug) arrival backstamp. Though philatelically inspired, this duty is rarely found on cover, especially as a single stamp. Ex Hart. |
