Postal History / Anglo-Boer War period 1901 (13th March), QV 1d carmine-rose embossed postal stationery envelope, addressed to Switzerland and uprated with additional ‘Hope Standing’ ½d and 1d adhesives (SG 58, 59a) all tied / cancelled by GPO Cape Town (13 Mar) double circle datestamps. Handstamped at upper left ‘PER DUNVEGAN CASTLE.’ in purple in the same colour as the senders address ‘W.R. SMIDT & CO. / CAPE TOWN’ handstamped on the flap. St. Gallen (31 Mar) arrival backstamp. Cover slightly reduced at right, though remarkably clean and attractive. |
