POSTAL HISTORY
AS155
1927 (13th April), Union 4d registered postal stationery envelope, addressed, on the reverse, to Germany. Bearing a single Afrikaans 4d triangle (SG 33) tied by WEST FORT (13 Apr) double circle datestamp with additional strike cancelling the embossed stamp. Various German transits and a Munich (6 May) arrival datestamp, all struck on the front. A scarce stamp to find commercially used on cover and a very scarce cancellation (not seen at the time of publication Putzel & Visser’s ‘Postmarks’ though subsequently recorded). Unusual.
