1889 (March), incoming registered cover from the Cape, addressed to Johannesburg. Bearing a single 6d bright mauve (SG 52b, corner fault), tied by light but readable ‘227’ BONC with proving Registered Kimberley (20 Mar) oval datestamp alongside, both struck in RED. Backstamped with very scarce WITWATERSRAND (24 Mar, with ‘9’ for year) single circle datestamp.
