1946 10th January, envelope sent registered to South Africa bearing a single KGVI 6d grey-black (SG 44) tied by a light 'GWANDA' (10 Jan) double circle datestamp and with a red Gwanda registration label affixed at upper left. The endorsement ‘unknown insufficiently addressed (initials)’ was added in red manuscript and a trilingual ‘INCONNU / UNKNOWN / ONBEKEND’ three-line cachet was applied in violet. The reverse with Gwanda (10 Jan), Johannesburg (15 Jan), Returned L.O. Cape Town (17 Jan), Returned Letter Branch / G.P.O. Salisbury (2 Feb) transit / arrival / forwarding backstamps. A fine example of a 6d single rate. |
