| 1866 (July), cover with original letter addressed to Cape Town. Bearing a single 1d (deep) carmine-red (with outer frame line, SG 23, trimmed at top) tied by small triangular obliterators. With SIMONS TOWN (18 July) dated town oval despatch struck in red on the reverse and with Cape Town (18 July) arrival datestamp on the front. A scarce early example of this rate and stamp on cover. |
