Postal History 1871 (February), envelope addressed to Cape Town, bearing a single 1d carmine-red (with outer frame lines, SG 23) tied by a crisp strike of the Small Triangular Obliterator. With originating DIEP RIVER (14 Feb) single circle datestamp and Cape Town (14 Feb) arrival, both struck on the front. A rare issue on cover and a superb early example of the local penny post, possibly taking advantage of the same-day delivery of a valentine card. |
