| 1895 (August), stampless official ‘O.H.M.S. post office printed ‘Memorandum’ sent from ‘H.D. Tedder’ the acting postmaster at Lower Tugela to the ‘Acting Magistrate’ at Verulam regarding an item of mail. With LOWER TUGELA / NATAL (20 Aug) single circle datestamp struck on the front and with printed ‘POSTAL DEPARTMENT / NATAL’ at lower left which has been endorsed by Mr Tedder. The flap roughly opened affecting a Verulam datestamp. Backstamped Durban (21 Aug). Also with Resident Magistrate’s Office / Inanda Division (21 Aug) oval datestamp struck inside in violet. Most unusual and a very fine strike of this scarce datestamp. |
