1935 10th December, irregular postal use of revenue stamps. KGV Field Marshal 7/6 revenues (Mewett 224), two singles which were apparently first used on a postage packet and struck with a 'SALISBURY S. R.' datestamp. This was noticed as an incorrect use with the two stamps then forwarded on the 2nd December to the Postmaster General and requesting that the 15/- paid to be refunded. Followed on the 7th December with a letter from the Postmaster General advising that the applicant should make his request for a refund to the place where the stamps were purchased, and that confirmation be made that the stamps were actually affixed to a postal packet. Finally on the 10th December a printed letter from the British South Africa Company, Charter House, Salisbury addressed to the Civil Commissioner enclosing the actual two stamps and previous correspondence and requesting a refund. A remarkable survivor, and full of typical bureaucracy.
