| 1914 (4th November), KGV 1d postal stationery envelope sent registered to Ireland. The impressed stamp and an additional King’s Head 4d are both cancelled by PRETORIA / SOUTH / AFRICA / INDO NATIVE OFFICE (4 Nov) double circle datestamps with an additional very clear strike on the reverse. Pretoria registration cachet struck at upper left and London (26 Nov) transit backstamp. Vertical crease (clear of adhesive), otherwise fine. Very rare. This type (with 'SOUTH' and 'AFRICA' above and below the date) apparently unrecorded by Putzel and Visser. |
