| 1884 (December), envelope from Pilgrims Rest addressed to Natal. Bearing four examples (pair and two singles) of the Celliers 1883 re-issue 1d black (SG 171) tied by target-type cancellations struck in black. The reverse showing originating PILGRIMS REST / TRANSVAAL (22 DEC) single circle datestamp and with PRETORIA / TRANSVAAL (DEC 26) transit and G.P.O. Natal (31 Dec) arrival backstamps The adhesives with some peripheral staining. The flap is complete, though with some clean tears. A scarce example of the 4d rate to an adjoining territory. |
