SOUTH AFRICA / Postage Dues 1985 (22nd May), incoming envelope from Zimbabwe, franked with 1c x2 and 9c definitives tied by a light Mt Pleasant (22 May) machine cancellation. The postage was underpaid and the envelope received a circular ‘T’ taxe marking struck in violet in Zimbabwe with ‘2/20’ inserted in red manuscript. A similar further circular marking with ‘6c’ added was applied in South Africa where two 3c postage stamps were affixed as dues and tied by a Randburg Depot (30 May) datestamp. The envelope also shows bilingual ‘COUNTER DELIVERY’ and ‘SURCHARGE NOT COLLECTED’ cachets struck in red. A further pair of 3c postage stamps was affixed to the reverse and tied by a Blairgowrie (5 Jun) datestamp, presumably for post office internal accounting purposes.
