POSTAL HISTORY / RAILWAYS 1906 (February), colour picture postcard (‘Post and Telegraph Office, Kroonstad, O.R.C.’). Addressed to Koffyfontein and bearing a single KEVII ½d (SG 139) tied by a very fine T.P.O. NORTH / SPECIAL (14 Feb) double circle datestamp with a KOFFYFONTEIN (15 Feb) arrival datestamp alongside. Very rare.

Note: this datestamp is reported to have been used for only two weeks on the Springfontein to Jagersfontein line after an extension through Fauresmith was opened on the 6th February 1906. The only known dates on the few recorded examples are the 7th and 14th February indicating it was a weekly service. Apparently unrecorded by Batten or Hagen & Naylor.
