Postal History 1902 (December), envelope sent registered from the Transvaal bearing KEVII 1d and 2d (vertical pair) tied by Nylstroom (3 Dec) double circle datestamps. Addressed to Natal with Pretoria (3 Dec) transit and Durban (5 Dec) arrival backstamp, then re-addressed to the Cape, where it received Port Elizabeth (20 Feb and 28 Feb) oval datestamps. The envelope was then forwarded to Cape Town where it received a RETURNED L.O. CAPE TOWN (3 Mar) single circle datestamp struck in violet on the reverse and an ‘ADVERTISED AND UNCLAIMED’ three-line cachet struck on the front, also in violet. The envelope was eventually returned to the Transvaal, where it received two RETURNED LETTER OFFICE / JOHANNESBURG (7 Mar) backstamps. |
