1913 (18th September), INTERPROVINCIAL PERIOD (Natal used in Cape). Natal KEVII ½d postal stationery card addressed locally, cancelled with a Cape Town (18 Sep) double circle datestamp. The reverse with handstamped ‘CAPE TOWN PHILATELIC SOCIETY’ with address and notice of a forthcoming meeting.
Note: it is believed the first society in Cape Town was founded on 3rd May, 1911. A short-lived ‘Johannesburg Philatelic Society’ was founded in 1894. The philatelic researcher Pauw Steyl states the society was known as the ‘Cape Town Philatelic Society and Exchange Club’. In May 1939 the name was changed to the ‘Cape Town Philatelic Society’ although this card shows that version of the name already in use in 1913. In August 1953 the name was changed to the ‘Royal Philatelic Society of Cape Town’.
