REVENUE 1902 (5th February), printed ‘Form Of Receipt’ (212x146mm) for ‘Randfontein Estates Gold Mining Company (Witwatersrand), Limited’. Issued to a Mr Baker for payment of £3750 for the purchase of 1000 shares. The amount paid was receipted by £1.11s.3d in revenue stamps, comprising ZAR ‘Zegelregt’ types overprinted ‘V.R.I.: 1d (x3, one faulty), 2/6 (x2), 5/- (x3) and 10/- used together with a Cape ‘Hope Standing’ 1/- overprinted ‘TRANSVAAL’. All stamps are tied by large ‘For Robinson South African Banking Co. Ltd. / Johannesburg’ straight line cancellations struck in violet. A scarce example of both revenue issues used in combination on a complete document. (TSC / Drysdall issues 3 and 4).
