REVENUE 1902 (8th February), printed ‘Form Of Receipt’ (209x146mm) for ‘Randfontein Estates Gold Mining Company (Witwatersrand), Limited’. Issued to a Mr Beard for payment of £468.15s for the purchase of 125 shares. The amount paid was receipted by 3s.11d in revenue stamps, comprising ZAR ‘Zegelregt’ type overprinted ‘V.R.I. 1d (x4) used together with Cape ‘Hope Standing’ 6d and 1/- (x3) dull purple & blue overprinted ‘TRANSVAAL’. All stamps are tied by ‘Robinson South African Banking Co. Limited / Johannesburg’ boxed cachets struck in violet. Two stamps affected by vertical filing folds. A scarce example of both revenue issues used in combination on a complete document. (TSC / Drysdall issues 3 and 4).
