POSTAL HISTORY 1898 (20th March), envelope addressed to Basutoland bearing a single HALVE PENNY surcharge on 3d ultramarine (SG 77) tied by a ZASTRON (MR 20) single circle datestamp with a second strike at left. WIPENER (MR 20) transit and MAFETENG BASUTOLAND (MR 23) arrival backstamps. A rare example of this surcharge used alone on cover paying the ½d unsealed open-letter rate.
