| 1958 Stamp-sized ESSAY (26x30mm) for the 1959 6d definitive. Hand-painted in orange-brown, Chinese White and deep green on thin card (93x110mm), in a design similar to the issued stamp, featuring a view of the Victoria Falls with duty ‘6d.’ and with spaces for the Queen’s portrait and territory name. Also showing an enlargement of proposed border detail (not adopted). Various pencil annotations include proposed wording ‘Rhodesia / and Nyasaland’ and ‘Eastern Cataract, Victoria Falls’. Colour specifications: ‘Mineral Green’ and ‘Geranium Lake’ as well as ‘Required 14/7/58’. With pen signature dated ‘24.6.58’. Delightful and unique. |
