AR482
1911 (1st February), BSAC 1d Small Arms Pictorial Postal Stationery Card (H&G 11a) mailed from the Belgian Congo. A used example of the full-size vertical view entitled ‘VICTORIA FALLS, RHODESIA. VIEW FROM NORTH BANK. Photo–F. W. Sykes.’ Addressed to Belgium and bearing a Belgian Congo 10c black and carmine tied by a LUKAFU (1 Feb) single circle datestamp. A handstruck ‘0’ signifies the Rhodesian imprinted stamp was demonitised / invalid. With Arlon (5 Mar) arrival datestamp struck on the front. Endorsed at top “... du Katanga, Elisabethville.” A few minor edge faults, otherwise very fine used.

Note: although these view cards have been recorded written at places within Belgian Congo (usually mission stations close to the Rhodesian border) they were invariably privately carried back into Rhodesia and mailed from there. It is very unusual to find one stamped and mailed via the Belgian Congo postal system.
