| 1887 (2nd September) envelope addressed to Kimberley, bearing a single 1885 2d pale bistre (SG 6) tied by a ‘555’ Barred Oval Numeral Canceller with a proving strike of the VRYBURG (2 Sep) single circle datestamp alongside. With a Kimberley (5 Sep) arrival backstamp and the flap showing the imprint ‘Rosenblatt & Wessels, Attorneys & Notaries, Vryburg.’ There is a 1cm tear at the top, clear of the adhesive. Very rare, with less than 12 covers bearing stamps of the first issue believed extant. |
