| 1867 (November), envelope bearing QV 1s green (SG 25), cancelled with barred numeral and alongside 'PIETERMARITZBURG / Crown NOV 8 1867 / NATAL' datestamp, addressed to England. Further crisp red 'LONDON / PAID / 23 DE 67' strike plus Birmingham arrival for the same day on reverse. Original contents enclosed being a very lengthy 12 page letter written palimpsest, somewhat of a challenge to read but no doubt a most fascinating account from the time. |
