BECHUANALAND / Stellaland / Warren Expedition 1885 (6th February), soldier’s 1d concessionary rate envelope addressed to Scotland. Bearing a single Cape 1d rose-red (SG 41, fault) tied by a very fine ‘232’ BONC with a proving strike of BARKLY G.W. (FE 6 85) single circle datestamp alongside. Endorsed at top ‘B. Christie. 1st Mounted Rifles and countersigned at lower left above ‘Commanding B Troop’. Backstamped with Cape Town (FE 10), Greenock (MR 4) and Largs (MR 4) transit / arrival datestamps. Small part of flap missing otherwise a very fine and rare early example of mail from this expedition.
