BRITISH BECHUANALAND 1891 (13th April), envelope addressed to Cape Town bearing a single 1888 unappropriated die 2d lilac and black (SG 11, with faults) tied by a ‘638’ BONC with a proving strike of the MAFEKING BECHUANALAND (AP 13) single circle datestamp alongside and with a straight line MAFEKING handstamp struck in violet at upper left. The envelope was apparently not collected and received a fine strike of the scarce Cape of Good Hope ‘ADVERTISED / AND / UNCLAIMED’ handstamp struck in black. Backstamped with Cape Town (April) and Returned Letter Office Cape Town (July) datestamps. Ex Holmes (Harmers, 1981, lot 1311).
