BRITISH BECHUANALAND 1891 (30th August), envelope addressed to England bearing a single 1888 unappropriated die 1/- green and black (SG 15) tied by two light strikes of the ‘638’ BONC with a proving strike of MAFEKING BECHUANALAND (AU 30) single circle datestamp alongside. Backstamped with Cape Town (SE 2) transit and London (SP 18) arrival datestamps. The flap with printed ‘Julius Weil / General Merchant / Mafeking’. A very scarce example of the 1/- duty paying double the 6d per half ounce letter rate to England.
