‘VIC’ VISSER BECHUANALAND
Postal History
Postal History
VV505
BRITISH BECHUANALAND 1895 (30th May), envelope sent registered to France, bearing QV ‘Jubilee’ ½d, 1d (2), 2d and 4d (SG 9, 33, 34, 35) each tied by a VRYBURG B.B. (MY 30) single circle datestamp. With a London (23 JU) oval transit datestamp struck in red on the front and backstamped with a Bordeaux (24 JUN) arrival datestamp. An attractive multicoloured franking to a scarce destination.

Note: the total postage paid amounts to 8½d. Allowing 4d for the registration fee, leaves 4½d which does not tally with any known letter rate at this date. It is possible the letter was overweight and should have been charged 9d (twice 2½d + 4d registration) and the ½d shortfall was overlooked.
