BECHUANALAND PROTECTORATE (British Bechuanaland used in the Protectorate) 1895 (25th November), envelope addressed to France, bearing a ‘Jubilee’ ½d vermilion and strip of three 2d bistre (SG 9, 39). All are tied by light strikes of the ‘676’ BONC with a proving strike of PALACHWE KHAMAS TOWN (NO 25) single circle datestamp below. Backstamped with a Mafeking (NO 29) squared circle transit and a Pontarlier (23 Dec) arrival datestamp. A fine example of the 6½d per half ounce letter rate from the Protectorate to France.

Note: the 2d strip can be plated as coming from the left pane, row 10, stamps 4-6, with the right stamp showing the variety Sliced ‘ch’ in ‘Bechuanaland’.
