BECHUANALAND PROTECTORATE 1912 (15th December), KEVII 4d registered postal stationery envelope (B&BS RE30c / H&G C9a) addressed to Mafeking, Cape Colony. Bearing a combination of adhesives comprising a QV 6d, a KEVII 1/- and a KGV 1d (SG 65, 70, 72) all cancelled with MOCHUDI B.B. (DE 15) single circle datestamps with an additional strike cancelling the imprinted stamp. Backstamped with a Mafeking (DE 15) arrival datestamp.

Note: the basis for calculating the rate paid is unclear as the letter rate to the Cape was reduced to 1d per half ounce on the 1st April 1903 and it seems unlikely the 1s.7d. postage affixed represents a 9½ ounce letter. However, the fact the addressee is a bank suggests commercial, non-philatelic use. The envelope may well have contained valuables and an additional fee was paid to increase compensation in the event of loss. A wonderful three-reign combination and most attractive franking. The KEVII 1/- is rare used on cover.
