Note: over the years this particular classification has been referred to as 'crimson', 'cherry' or currently 'rosine'. This somewhat illustrates the confusion or difficulty in establishing exactly what this listing is. This particular example conforms most closely to the 'cherry' classification as termed in the Gibbs sale (Sotheby's London, 1988, lot 143), where interestingly enough is was specifically noted as 'not crimson'. |
