| 1891 26th October, printed red on cream cheque, headed at top 'BRITISH SOUTH AFRICA COMPANY'S POLICE', and above 'TROOP.' although this deleted in ink. Drawn on the Standard Bank of South Africa, and in favour of one C. E. Wells in the amount of £50. Endorsed in pencil at top 'Refer to Drawer'. The reverse countersigned by C. E. Wells and applied with Cape QV 1d green on yellow revenue cancelled with violet oval. A remarkable item from the very early settler period, it's survival no doubt as a consequence of being referred. |
