1902 Anglo Boer War, envelope, the reverse flap with vermilion imprint for the Town Clerk's Office, Bulawayo (reminiscent of the Tati Concessions revenue stamp design), bearing 1d Arms (SG 77), tied with somewhat indistinct cancel. Addressed to one James Gibson, Prisoner of War, Hut 28, Diyatalawa Camp, Ceylon. Upon arrival struck with violet oval 'PASSED CENSOR P. O. W / E. J. B. / DIYATALAWA' cachet, this used by E J Baumann between 17 Jan 01 to 21 June 02. Re-addressed to Urugasmanhandiya and then further forwarded back again but this time to Hut 41. Reverse bears light 'BURGHERSDORP' sc datestamp. An extraordinary item, mail from Rhodesia to a Boer War POW is virtually unknown. No doubt an intriguing story to uncover.
