POSTAL HISTORY
T2143
1895 (1st June), envelope addressed to Lourenco Marques, Mozambique bearing a single ‘shafts’ 2d olive-bistre (SG 202) tied by a clear fine strike of the ‘40’ barred triangle obliterator and with a clear proving datestamp alongside of the GROOT SUIKERBOSCHKOP (1 JUN) squared octagon. Two partial transit datestamps on the reverse. Very fine and extremely rare. According to the Visser / Putzel records, only a small part strike of this datestamp has previously been recorded. The numeral canceller is also scarce and apparently has not previously been attributed to this agency. A wonderful ZAR discovery.
