1893 Provisional surcharge ‘2½ Pence’ on 1/- green. Showing the variety SURCHARGE INVERTED AND MISPLACED FRACTION BAR (reading '2/½' for ‘2½'). Very fine mint. Extremely rare. SG 198ba

Note: This error occurs at position 10, the top right stamp in the pane. In ‘Transvaal Philately’ (1986) Major Ian Mathews states “Bearing in mind that this fraction bar error occurs only once on each of the 350 panes – for it was corrected on the second printing – then the inverted specimens probably totalled no more than 12 to 15 out of the 350 panes so surcharged. This makes the inverted error one of the rarest stamps in philately - on a par with the ‘Post Office’ Mauritius.” Of the estimated 12 to 15 that could exist, six examples are in the Curle Collection in the Africana Museum in Johannesburg.
