| BRITISH BECHUANALAND 1892 (24th September), envelope addressed to the Cape bearing a single QV ‘Jubilee’ 2d grey-green and carmine (SG 34) tied by a light ‘555’ BONC with proving VRYBURG (SP 24) single circle datestamp alongside. With two-line cachet ‘Per NORTHERN EXPRESS LINE, / VRYBURG and MAFEKING,’ struck in violet at upper left. With MIDLAND DOWN (SP 26) TPO transit and Port Elizabeth (SP 26) arrival backstamps. A little light staining on the reverse, otherwise a remarkably clean cover. |
