| BRITISH BECHUANALAND 1895 (21st May), Cape QV 1d chestnut postal stationery card overprinted ‘BRITISH BECHUANALAND’ in seriffed letters (B&BS PC8 / H&G 5). Addressed to Salisbury, Mashonaland and uprated with the addition of a ½d vermilion (SG 9), tied by a VRYBURG (21 May) squared circle datestamp. With a fine strike of the scarce MAFEKING / (22 May) single circle datestamp with a dot at base, struck alongside in transit. The reverse with printed bank correspondence and with Bulawayo Matabeleland (28 May) and Salisbury Mashonaland (6 Jun) transit / arrival backstamps. Scarce early use to Rhodesia. |
