1921 (6th September), envelope sent registered to Switzerland. Bearing KGV King’s Head 2½d, 3d and 6d (SG 7a, 8, 11a) tied by CAPE TOWN (6 Sep) double circle datestamps with a further strike on the reverse. Luzern (6 Oct) arrival backstamp.
Note: The addressee, Eugen Szekula was the brother of Bela Szekula who is described in ‘Philatelic Forgers, Their Lives and Works’ (Varro E. Tyler, 1976 and 1991) as “… for many years engaged in one fraudulent or disreputable philatelic scheme after another” and “a notorious dealer ... given to blackmailing.” Of Eugen Szekula, the website www.szekula.org says “Although he was much less of a traveller, Eugen Szekula’s ‘business qualities’ probably came close to those of Béla … he also employed the same sale tactics as Béla sending out unwanted stamp selections and then aggressively demanding payment.”
