AS409
1944 (12th September), envelope addressed to Pietermaritzburg bearing a single War Effort 2d Sailor (SG 100) tied by a very fine CAVALCADE (12 IX / 1944) single circle relief type datestamp. Scarce.

Note: According to Hasso O. Reisener in ‘The Special & Commemorative Postmarks, Cachets & Covers of South Africa’ (1975), this datestamp was used at the ‘Dawn of Victory Cavalcade’ held at Pietermaritzburg from 12th to 16th September. He notes “This is probably one of the scarcest cavalcade postmarks.”
