BECHUANALAND / Stellaland / Warren Expedition 1885 (9th August) soldier’s concessionary rate envelope addressed to England. Bearing a single Cape of Good Hope 1d rose-red (SG 41, fault) tied by a BARKLY G.W. (AU 9) single circle datestamp. Endorsed at top “From Trooper Norbury 1 MR” (1st Mounted Rifles), and countersigned at lower left by the Commanding Officer “off com. D troop”. Cape Town (12 Aug), Birmingham (1 Sep) and Malvern (2 Sep) transit / arrival backstamps. A few peripheral faults, otherwise a fine and rare example of mail from this expedition.
