1885 Revenue Stamps with 'JPM' monogram

| STELLALAND / Revenue 1885 (October), portion of a document (169x84mm) bearing two examples of the £1 reddish lilac each handstamped with the ‘JPM’ monogram (upright, T&M ST.2n.8), both cancelled with manuscript date ‘(Oct)ober 1885’ and with the distinctive signature ‘M.C Genis / Reg of Deeds’. The document was later amended with the addition of unappropriated dies 1/- and 2/- (SG 15, 16), each cancelled with date ‘24-2-91’ and again the signature of M.C. Genis, all in red manuscript. Vertical crease affects one of the £1, otherwise a scarce franking. |
