| SOUTH AFRICA / Postage Dues 1974 (22nd July), envelope addressed to Cape Town bearing a single 4c ‘Broadcasting’ commemorative (SG 345) tied by a Johannesburg (22 Jul) datestamp. It appears the envelope contained coins or other valuables, was stopped and received a ‘COMPULSORY REGISTRATION / . . . . TO PAY / VERPLIGTE REGISTRASIE / TE BETAAL’ unframed cachet struck in red with ‘20c’ inserted by hand. The charge was receipted by a pair of 10c bright scarlet postage dues (SG D80) which were affixed and tied by Cape Town (26 Jul) datestamps with a further strike on the reverse. This postage due issue is very scarce on cover. |
