1894 (26th May), envelope addressed in the distinctive hand of Emil Tamsen and sent registered to the USA. Bearing ‘Vurtheim’ 2d olive-bistre and 1/- yellow-green (SG 178, 183b) each tied by a ‘17’ in barred triangle obliterator with a proving NYLSTROOM (26 May) double circle datestamp at lower right. Also showing a large ‘R/Z.A.R.’ oval registration mark. With a London (19 Jun) transit struck in red on the front and New York (29 Jun) arrival backstamps. A scarce franking with a 1/- duty and showing double the 4d per half ounce letter rate to a UPU member country plus 6d for registration.
