T2163
1894 (23rd May), envelope addressed to Cape Town bearing a strip of four ‘HALVE PENNY’ surcharge on 2d olive-bistre (SG 195) tied by JOHANNESBURG (23 May) double circle datestamps. Cape Town (26 May) and Gardens T.O. (26 May) arrival backstamps. Some flap damage, otherwise a clean and attractive example of the 2d per half ounce letter rate to the Cape Colony and showing scarce usage of the provisional surcharges.
