1891 (2nd May), envelope addressed to Germany. Bearing 1/8 in postage comprising ‘Vurtheim’ 2d olive-bistre (pair), a single 4d bronze-green and a pair of 6d pale dull blue (SG 178, 181, 182) all tied by JOHANNESBURG (2 May, with ‘2’ inverted) single circle datestamps. Cape Town (8 May) transit and Heidelberg (25 May) arrival backstamps. A ‘4’ in blue manuscript indicates a weight of up to 2 ounces. One 6d with corner fault otherwise a fine example of a quadruple 5d per half ounce letter rate to Europe.
