1896 (4th April), long envelope addressed and sent registered to the Cape. Bearing 16 examples of the ½d green (SG 216) all tied by light strikes of the scarce GEREGISTREERD / JHBRG BEURS (4 Apr) double circle datestamps. Aliwal North (6 Apr) transit and Lady Grey Div. Aliwal North (9 Apr) arrival backstamps.
Note: this datestamp was used at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. The 8d postage paid represents a double weight rate of 2d per half ounce plus 4d for registration.
