1895 (15th December), ‘Tamsen’ envelope addressed and sent registered to France. Bearing a ½d pearl-grey and a 6d pale dull blue (SG 205, 217) tied by light ‘17’ barred triangle obliterators and with a NYLSTROOM (15 Dec) double circle datestamp. Endorsed ‘Register’ and with a large ‘R’ in oval struck in black. The reverse with Pretoria (15 Dec), Cape Town (18 Dec) transits and Dieulefit (2 Jan) arrival backstamps. The flap with plain embossed oval of ‘E. Tamsen / Merchant / Nylstroom Z.A.R.’ partly under a wax seal. A fine example of the 2½d per half ounce rate to Europe plus a 4d registration fee.
