1899 (24th March), envelope addressed to the USA bearing a strip of five 1d rose-red and green (SG 217) tied by STEENBOKFONTEIN / Z.A.R. (24 Mar) double circle datestamps. Rustenburg (28 Mar) and Pretoria transits and New York (22 Apr) arrival backstamps. The flap with printed details of sender ‘R. Sprinz, Groenfontein, Zwart Ruggens, Dist. Rustenburg, S.A.R.’ Horizontal fold clear of the adhesives and some staining, mainly confined to the reverse. A scarce datestamp, especially on cover. A fine example of a double weight 2½d per half ounce rate to the USA.
