| Postal History 1883 (June), envelope bearing 'One Half-Penny.' on 3d deep claret (SG 47) vertical and horizontal pairs, indistinctly cancelled. Struck alongside with light 'EERSTE RIVER JU 4 1883' (the '4' inserted by hand) datestamp, the reverse with different despatch strike. Endorsed 'Immediate' and addressed to Stellenbosch with arrival strike on the front for the same day. This provisional surcharge very difficult on cover. |
