Postal History 1883 (April), envelope bearing 'One Half-Penny.' on 3d deep claret (SG 47) strip of four (left stamp defective corner), indistinctly cancelled. Reverse struck with two different 'EERTSE RIVER AP 17 83' despatch datestamps. Endorsed 'Immediate' and addressed to Stellenbosch with arrival strike on the front for the same day, then re-addressed to Somerset West with arrival backstamp for the 18th and then a further 'MOSTERTS BAY' the same day. This provisional surcharge very difficult on cover.
