POSTAL HISTORY
AC992
Postal History 1886 (24th August), printed invoice for an annual subscription of £1.11.0 to the ‘Lantern’. Folded and addressed to a Mr Dobson in Willowmore. The wrapper was sealed with a perforated band of yellow paper which has been partly removed from the front resulting in the loss of part of the address. The reverse with an example of the ½d grey-black (SG 40a) affixed to the band and tied by a segmented circular cancellation 25 / C D / 8 (for 25th August. The meaning of ‘C’ and ‘D’ is unclear). Goldblatt records this cancellation (type PS7) was applied to wrappers and circulars and occasionally envelopes. The front with some staining. Unusual.
