POSTAL HISTORY
AB3114
1935 (8th February), envelope addressed locally within Francistown. Bearing a single KGV ‘Cattle and Baobab’ 1d scarlet (SG 100) tied by a FRANCISTOWN (8 Feb) double circle datestamp with a further strike on the reverse. The letter was deemed to weigh more than half an ounce and received an oval framed ‘T’ tax marking and a ‘T2’ in red manuscript. The shortfall was receipted by a postage due 2d violet on ordinary paper (SG D6) which was affixed and tied by a Francistown (9 Feb) double circle datestamp. Very rare genuine early usage of this postage due with few examples recorded on cover. Ex Christies Robson Lowe sale 12th June 1991, lot 177.
